No More Thumb Sucking!!!

I truly cannot believe it, but it seems that Lily has stopped sucking her thumb. Lily has been a huge thumb sucker, has calluses on both of her thumbs to prove it. One thumb in her mouth, with the other hand holding the sleeve of the arm she is using to suck. We had been thinking for awhile that it was time to nix the thumb sucking, but didn't know how to go about it without torturing her. I mentioned that once she stopped sucking her thumb we could get her some special nail polish. I found a brand that doesn't contain the nasty chemicals that polish usually has. That was all it took, and as far as we can tell she hasn't sucked on them since.

The first night she curled up in bed, grabbed one of her sleeves and went to put the other thumb in her mouth. She realized she didn't want to put her thumb in her mouth, flopped over with a load sigh to her other side and tried the other thumb, quickly realizing it was no good either. I did get her some a variety of band aids to put on her thumbs, along with this stuff you put on your nails that has cayenne pepper in it. She quickly graduated to not wanting those on either. We haven't seen her sucking her thumb once, and she is adamant she hasn't. Hard to believe when she is in a deep sleep she isn't, but she is trying so hard.
I took her the other day to get her polish, she picked out a bright red and a bright pink. Then we went to the nail salon and they gave her a manicure. Of course I forgot my camera, but we got the after pictures. She is in love with her nails, and is sharing the polish so nicely with her sis.
